I’ve got to be honest with you, sunset elopements are second-to-none (okay, fine, they are equal to sunrise elopements). But seriously, there is just something absolutely magical about eloping as the sun slowly creeps below the horizon. The sky turns the most magical colors, you get that golden hour glow, and you get to say “I do” with the most stunning background. It truly doesn’t get much better, right?
As if you needed any more convincing, I’m here to tell you why I love sunset elopements so much and why you should consider having one. So without further ado, here are the reasons why I love sunset elopements.
First off, let’s talk about the views. Honestly, I’m trying to think of a more magical time of day, and I’m coming up short. No matter where you are (unless you’re facing east), sunsets are always spectacular. Let’s be honest, I’ve never met a sunset I didn’t like. Of course, you’ll want to make sure the weather is right, but even those dispersing rain clouds can sometimes make the perfect cotton candy sky. Some of my favorite sunset skies happen right after a stormy day that clears up at the perfect time.
Where is the perfect spot for absolutely breathtaking sunset views? Personally, I love the mountains. There’s nothing more whimsical and ethereal than saying “I do” as the sun sets behind magnificent peaks. Truly, it doesn’t get much better than that. I also absolutely love the Arizona desert—the red rocks looking wildly beautiful with the sky turning shades of pinks and purple behind it. Truly, there’s no bad place for a sunset elopement, in my personal opinion.
We can’t talk about sunsets without mentioning that golden hour glow. I mean, who doesn’t absolutely adore staring off into the sunset, main character style? And there’s no better day to feel like the main character than on your wedding day. Golden hour photos are absolutely top tier, any photographer will tell you. The way the sun makes you softly glisten with warm, gorgeous colors is *chef’s kiss* and you can’t tell me otherwise. Not to mention, you get the blue hour glow immediately after, and all-in-all it’s like taking photos straight out of a fairytale.
One of the best parts about having a sunset elopement is the number of activities you can do all day leading up to your ceremony. Let’s talk about a few here. If you’re planning on having guests (but not during the ceremony), have lunch or brunch beforehand. This gives you time to celebrate with everyone before setting off to say “I do” privately with each other.
I can’t talk about sunset elopements without mentioning the epic hikes you can do to get to your ceremony spot. Some of the most magical, whimsical photos are from the hike out and back (especially if you’re hiking through a forest). Hiking is one of my favorite activities to include for elopements because let’s be honest, the views at the end are second-to-none.
Some other activities I love include:
There is absolutely nothing off-limits when it comes to including epic activities you love doing together.
I cannot end this blog without talking about one of my all-time favorite activities to include during an elopement: stargazing. Over 75% of my sunset elopements end with a stargazing session. And seriously, it’s so worth it. You not only get those breathtaking photos from your sunset ceremony, but now you also get the jaw-dropping, magical shots of the stars sparkling behind you. I mean, it’s unreal.
I’m not sure if I’ve convinced you to have a sunset ceremony yet, but if I have, I can’t wait to help you plan out your perfect day and capture your beautiful love story through my lens. If you’re ready to begin planning, contact me today and let’s see if we’re a good fit!
